2018 Picture Archive

We are pleased to provide on this page a gallery of pictures from a selection of the many events that we will have hosted, sponsored or attended during 2018.   This section of the website will be updated as events take place.   We hope that it shows a representative selection of event photographs.   To look at pictures from the past few years we have included an archive for reference at the foot of this page.

Laminar Flow Cabinet Presentation - January 2018

East Grinstead Lions are pleased to announce that the Laminar Flow Cabinet has now been installed at QVH. This followed a donation of £4000 from the club and a contribution of £1000 from Chichesters Lions Sight Fund. One of the pictures shows members of the Lions Club at the presentation; Consultant Damian Lake, Ron Millen, Dr Nigel Jordan, Richard Parr, Jim Miller, Brian Richens and Keith Pratt.

Dr Jordan at the QVH states that it is with great thanks that we have received the Laminar Flow Cabinet, which you kindly raised the money and agreed to pay for. It has now been installed in our cleanroom ready for use in the preparation of a specific type of corneal transplant called a DMEK graft. This will greatly reduce the time currently taken in our operating theatres to prepare them and enable additional operations to be performed. The next step is to fully train our technicians in the preparation of the grafts and submit a process change document to our regulators giving notice that we are implementing a new procedure. I am hopeful that the first patients will be treated with grafts prepared in the Lions Laminar Flow Cabinet early in 2018. The have photographs show it in situ in our cleanroom. Many thanks from the Eye Bank and Corneo Plastic Unit for your continued support of our services. A copy of the Crawley News Article can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.

Prostate Testing 24th November 2018

We were delighted to welcome 326 men who made an appointment to give a blood sample to test their PSA level.  Our Lions were ably supported in this process by members of the PCaSO team (a cancer charity) led by Roger Bacon.  In view of the subject matter and not wishing to picture too many individuals, the above pictures show mainly the venue (excluding the Phlebotomy facility). Participants were greeted at registration and completed a consent form, offered a coffee or tea and biscuits whilst they waited to be called forward, firstly to be given a talk about Prostate Cancer and secondly how the results of the test would be processed. Following that a blood sample was taken and following clinical analysis, the resulting PSA reading will be sent to each of them with advice about next steps. The Cat in the above picture seemed to have a strong desire to stay with us all day, loving the company.  This successful venture will be repeated in 2019.
